Your Role

  • To provide expert, strategic data protection, advice and leadership for the Council to ensure compliance with Data Protection legislation. Advising and informing the organisation and its employees of their obligations pursuant to current Data Protection legislation. This will include advising services on the appropriate disclosure of personal Information, particularly with the Police, other law-enforcement agencies and recognised partners.

  • To provide advice and guidance to the Council in responding to requests for information – FOI and EIR

  • Handling complaints and working with the ICO re: FOI,EIR,DP(IRRs and incidents).

  • To report directly to the SIRO and Chief Officer Team on all matters pertaining to the councils compliance with all of its obligations under Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Environmental the Data Protection legislation.

  • To advise services on the appropriate disclosure of personal Information, particularly with the Police, other law-enforcement agencies and recognised partners.

  • To provide advice to services regarding Data Protection Impact Assessments and monitoring their performance.

  • To manage the investigation and response to personal data breaches and data security breaches in accordance with Council policy, having full discretion to report to the Information Commissioner.

  • To report all information compliance issues which present a reputational or material risk, to the Council’s SIRO, and in accordance with relevant policies.

  • To manage the Council’s relationship with the Information Commissioner’s Office and to respond on behalf of the Council to them regarding their complaints and investigation processes, acting as the Councils representative.

  • To act as an impartial focal point for the public, dealing directly with them regarding any issues, queries, or complaints that they may have relating to any personal data that the council may hold for them. The Data Protection Officer will make final decisions regarding the outcome of any complaint.
